Puff pastry sounds terrifying and a difficult task to accomplish, but fear not dear reader! This simple recipe will not only relieve your fears, but the results will be phenomenal. Once you master this delicious recipe, you'll want to use it all the time.
Ingredients:
2 cup flour
1 tsp salt
2 sticks frozen butter
2/3 cup ice cold water
Instructions:
1. Sift* the flour and salt into a large bowl, place it in a refrigerator for about 15 minutes. Grate the frozen butter into the flour, while occasionally mixing it in to the flower to prevent it from sticking.
*If you don't have a strainer or sifter, you can use a wire whisk to sift the flour. In addition to a wire whisk, get a bowl large enough to contain as much flour as you need. If you don't have a wire whisk, you can use a fork in a pinch. Go for a bigger fork, as this will allow you to sift the flour more efficiently.
2. Make a well in the bowl and pour in the cold water, mix until you have a firm, rough dough.
3. Wrap the dough tight with a plastic wrap and leave in a refrigerator for 30 minutes.
4. Roll the dough out onto a lightly floured board, knead gently and form into a smooth rectangle. Keep the edges straight and even. Don’t overwork the butter streaks; you should have a marbled effect.
5. Fold the top third down to the center, then the bottom third up and over that, same with the sides. Roll out again to three times the length into a rectangular shape. Place parchment paper on top of the dough, fold over top and bottom of the dough, wrap with a plastic wrap and let it chill in a refrigerator for about an hour.
